A Rose by any other name could be asparagus

I wanted to buy you a rose

but it was the day before payday

so I’m writing you a Poem

to say I love you

for all eternity

as far as I can humanly know

longer than a rose would last, at any rate

I wanted to buy you a rose

because that’s a symbol to you

if asparagus worked

I would of bought you that

if a single solid red brick

or a Jerome Robinson art rock

I would of that

If you really loved John Denver, though,

I would buy you a rose

I wanted to buy you a rose

symbol of blood red love and lust

fidelity and thorniness

passion and committment

symbol that I had $2.93

on the day before payday

I wanted to buy you a rose

to say I enjoy living with you

despite all your bad habits

none of which I will speak of

in public

despite all my bad habits

none of which you will speak of

except in your letters

I wanted to write you a rose

or buy you a Poem

to say it is beautiful

to live

in this house of ordinary magic
