I Have not grown

I have not grown

tired of your

old face

It seems we’ve been together

since time was a baby

and Methuselah a young pup

since Caesar first sighted Cleopatra

since Adam first felt

a pain in his side

and weren’t we at Adam and Eve’s Wedding

did I drink too much

make a fool of myself

at the reception

pity ’bout Abel

and who was that young girl

that Cain finally married

———————————-

time goes on ugly old dogs feet

my memories of other lovers die

like old flicks flickering

memories of Rudy Valentino and

Natacha Rambova

I no longer dwell on who slew

Black

Dahlia in

Los Angelos nine teen fourty eight

or why

all those other affairs

were endings seen from the

Beguin’e beginning

it’s very zen

and the art of Poetry Maintenance

=========================================================

all the centuries were needed

all the births and deaths

all those bad movies of affairs

for that was the path to you, old face,

a place I dwell in pleasure

and forever

having not grown tired

of our humdrum existence

of the day to day in love

of the simple pleasure of

being with you
