I’ve Heard Rumours

I’ve heard rumours

that the mayor of a major Metropolis ci ty
murdered ele ven people
burned down two ci ty blocks
and called it reace

I’ve heard rumours

Ramona’s still in jail

Wilson’s still in office

and some People are still

reading Clark Kent’s column in The Daily Planet

expecting to find the big news

in Smallville

I’ve heard rumours

that the large story on Infection News

is that not one city official was indicted today

not one suspect died of police custody

not one child was given a great memorial service

(gone to a better world they always say,

who knows the truth of that)

not one grandmother raped,

nor one grandfather mugged

nor one more soul gone crazy with the world

choosing flame, or knife over life

but the Phillies did lose another one in the 9th

I’ve never seen this day in Philadelphia

but People swearrrrrrr

this has happened

I have

heard rumours

Bob Small-at a whisper or whisker to midnight
