1-6-21 d Teddy’s last call
________________________________
Could barely hear him
over the ripples of riots
words, screams, songs,
noises that could not be-
_______________________________________
Teddy wondered
if today was a new
founding
a dawn after dark night
__________________________________________
Then I thought
I heard him say
what his fears were
if they didn’t win
_______________________________________
What parts, what parts
of the Bill of Rights
would now be wrong
would now be wrong
____________________________________________
then loudness took over
and it sounded like a phone booth
‘cept that’s my and his time
his time, not the time of now
_______________________________________
We never finished
this talk
heard a voice say
“come along, come along”
_______________________________
“come along, come along
say good bye to your family”
then the phone went blank
try not to use the word dead
try not to use the word dead
