So what exactly are our choices here in America 2016.
Is it “We can do better in the US”
Is it “Morning in America” in either 1960 or 1980
Is it standing in front of the Duma in 1916 Moscow
or the units of the Spanish Army mobilizing in Madrid,
Or maybe, just maybe, 2016 is finally
Yeats “rough beast slouching” this time

This has become a unique year in American Election Politics,
with many voters unenamored of either Presumptive Major Party Candidate. There are, however, a number of “other” Candidates, including many from the “Alternative” i. e. 3rd Parties. If you would take the Mantra of “Vote your hopes, not your fears” (The Nation, Oct 2000), then you may want to review some of the “Alternative” Candidates.
Jim Hedges is the 2016 Candidate of the Prohibition Party.
Founded in 1869, the Prohibition Party is the oldest existing Alternative Party in this country. They were the first US Political Party to accept women as party members, including giving them full voting rights at their first convention. To see their current Platform, which ranges far beyond
Prohibition, see http://www.prohibitionparty.org/

Jim Hedges was born in 1938 in Iowa City, Iowa. He grew up on a small rural farm, which he believes was “a mentally exacting, physically exhausting way of life” which “taught resourcefulness and responsibility” and “produced strong families and strong communities”.
He quotes Thomas Jefferson’s belief that “the yeoman farmer is the backbone of America”. He feels that our “giving up farming as a way of life in exchange for “progress” has come at a very high price.”

While in High School, Jim choose the Prohibition Party,
believing it best answered his concerns about “social responsibility and personal integrity.” He sees Alternative Parties as “Publicizing alternative policies and embarrassing the Major Parties by running “truth squads”. He wants “public financing and debates to include all ballot-qualified Candidates”, as was the rule until 1996. He would also like to have a clear discussion of the role of Citizens United.

Jim Hedges received a Bachelor’s Degree in Musical Performance from the University of Iowa. He was a Professional Tuba Player and served twenty years in the United States Marine Band.
He also has a Master’s Degree in Geography from the University of Maryland. He was Editor-in-Chief of the National Speleological Society Bulletin (the primary Journal on the science of caves) for eleven years.
His original research on this topic has been published in both the US and
internationally.

The 2 most important issues in his Campaign are
“recreational drugs and environmental issues, including climactic warming”. He is not worried that his Campaign will impact an Election he, and many others, see as a slam-dunk. If he could vote for Sanders in the general election, he would consider it. If elected his first Executive order would be to “Quash CIA meddling in the internal affairs of other countries”

In the world of the Prohibition Party, he was a founding member the Partisan Probition Historical Society which he represented at
meetings of the National Temperance and Prohibition Council. He serves
on the Prohibition Trust Fund Board. He was elected, from the Prohibition Party, for two terms as Township Assessor for Needham, Pa.
His “Camel Press”has issued many pieces of Prohibition Party Literature.
Lastly, he has spent the past fifteen years, collecting the history of the Prohibition Party and posting it on http://www.prohibitionists. org.
His Campaign has been very quiet, with a Huffington Post Article, interviews with various Bloggers, both here and in Europe. He has participated in some Forums, including Democracy Unplugged, etc.
He is on the IAP Primary Ballot in California and expects some upcoming newspaper and radio interviews. His Campaign Website is http://www.hedgesandbayes2016.org
