Why it Closed
Closing of a local unnamed
restaurant in Delaware County, Pa
It was the kind of place
you remembered going to
just knew you had
stopped the going of to
though, like an old lover
you had stopped loving
were not sure why
and surely did not want
to be sure why
It was the kind of place
you had long ago stopped thinking of
in terms of eating adventures
the food “was not bad”
having reached the level of mediocre quite nicely
and like
too many of our elected defective officials
had managed,
like an abandoned property,
to just stay there
It was the kind of place
where you could
stay for hours
stay for hours
waiting to be noticed
not like Lana Turner at a soda fountain
it felt like
sitting at the bus stop
waiting for the eternity bus next stop Hades-
this bus though will come, though
before their waiters
before their waiters
Can’t speak
for anyone else
who stopped going
