I had one of those d reams again

I had one of those dreams again

to M S
I dreamt we were both running the streets together again
mid-1980’s Philly Frankford K and A streets
something we never did together
but could of
would of

You were both drink and drugs
I was more conservative
If I had to get on a street corner for it
and leave the barstool with my name on it
the barstool with my name on it-
That was more excitement and danger than I needed
or wanted, like the Beat’s  angry streets
I just wanted a place  that felt like family
not a place that smelled of death
not a place that smelled of death

When I finally woke up, there was rain and it was Swarthmore
and I had not just seen a shooting
in the 1980’s Philly Cops might shoot anyone
who smelled like junkie to them
who smelled like junkie to them
I  dreamt  we were both-’cause I still miss you
like all my friends who die too soon
by their own hands or others
by their own hands or others
leaving me too much with myself
