Of course he was

Of course

Variations on La Ci Darem La Mano

Opus 2 Frederick Chopin, play while driving

Of course

he was a Pedophile

we didn’t have the use of those words then

would of just thought meant

an adult who loved us

Then, of course, it was the

nine teen sixties

who knew who to trust

one who gives beer and drugs and sex

what’s not to love

Some of us thought it was love

most of us

didn’t think too deep

this was who we are

this was what happened

For years this has been carried

by those of us who remembered him

and loved him

genius artist singer

tragic tragic tragic

No, he wasn’t Jimmy Saville

Yes, he suicided before thirty

Maybe some of us spent years mourning

and missing him

as though we were over twelve at first meeting

When we used to go to ghost town Pharmacies

the three or four of us

He would be wearing his stolen Priest outfit

while one of us handed in the forged scripts

One of us by the door, car waiting

There was the one time

an owner grabbed me with his strong arm

and I stared into eternity

till I punched him

with strength beyond strength

and we ran and we ran

jumped into a running car

this was excitement, 50 years ago,

way beyond Northeast Philadelphia

something else he gave us

Maybe it’s all over and done damn with

water over and under the damn damn damn

Maybe some of us will never be truely right

Maybe some of us will

Maybe we have the choice

 started on August 12th

50 years in the making
