The one good dream I had of my father

The one good dream I had of my father

Last night

last night

I dreamt I was back in his company again

working with the oil seals and bally bearings

maybe listening to Navy Football on my transistor

if it was  a a Saturday

I walked down to the break room

which there never was

really

but this is my dream

and I’ll put one in if I feel like

and talked with the other employees

none of whom were related to my father

all of whom knew that

I walked down to talk to them

cadged a smoke

that was back when smokes were cadged

and we talked about something

just because it was something to do

I don’t remember lunch

at the hole in the wall hoagie place

at the intersection of decrepit and

Frankford Avenue

or maybe decrepit and Torresdale

but we must of gone there

because we always do

my father and me

because

that was what we did

At the end of the day

and the end of the dream

he paid me

as he always did

and maybe it was fifteen

And I looked to him

and said the money doesn’t matter today

because you’ve been dead a long long time

and I’m somebody else now

who’s woken up

and choose my own life

from last night’s dream  3-19-13
