The Committee of the Arts Festival

The Committee of the Arts Festival  (1922)
Otto Tetius Tugel   1892-1972
seen at Museum fur Kunst Und Gewerbe (MKG) on 10-31-2012

Who were they then
these faces from Der Meistersinger?
Perhaps anyone who judges
can too easily be judged

How might my actions be judged
Did I do enough in the 1960’s
1970’s, 1980, 1990’s, this century
what is enough and who judges

Who were they then
these Eduard Hanslicks of 1922
the art critics, deciders, deriders
were the failed then the ones to judge

I want to know how I would of been
if I had seen if I had been
there in the nineteen and thirties
would I have known who to be

They are having tea and gesticulating
arguing over whose art to include
whose art is “worthy’ whom do you say
yes to, to whom is the word no

I wake up each and every day now
and find a cause attached to my lips
I write, I work, I read, I play
does any of it make a life
